What hosting is right for me?
There are many different factors to take into consideration when you are choosing a host.
As a quick tip, we suggest that if you only wish to use your site for personal uses, e.g. create a blog, photo album or manage a simple website, then the best choice for you would be to get PHP personal hosting.
The approx webspace of about 3000 MB is more than enough for a personal site! Shared hosting solutions are much cheaper.
Different hosting types
Choosing what type of hosting you require can get very confusing. In this article we aim to make it clear what the different types of hosting are, what the average prices are and what you should look for when choosing one. Remember, there is no "best" web host, they all have different advantages to your specific requirements.
Linux and Microsoft Shared Hosting
Shared hosting is when a hosting company splits a web server into many different sections, which are sold to customers.
The web space offered varies, usually between 250MB to as much as 100,000MB.
The prices vary from as little as £1 a month to £12.
Advantages:
Price: Shared hosting packages are much cheaper than any other, and are perfect for a small company or for personal use, particularly when a large amount of webspace is not required.
Service: You are not left on your own to manage your hosting. If you are going with a big company, it is in their best interests to proprly maintain the server. You do not need to worry about any outages or server problems.
Ease: With a shared hosting package, there are usually many free features that will help you efficiently manage your website. From one click blog installations, to FTP uploads, to easy photo album creators, there will be many resources available to help you.Disadvantages:
Speed: Shared server response times are much slower than dedicated packages, because the bandwidth is being used by multiple sites at once.
Downtime: If one website on the server is using a very high amount of bandwidth at one time, all other websites will be affected, albeit temporarily, but there could be issues accessing the site for a short period. This is called downtime
Where to get a .eu Domain
.eu domains are available to anyone living in the EU. We compare different selling points of registrars. When looking to buy a domian, remember to check if there is free DNS control, and that web forwarding is available. Without these, you may not be able to park your domain or transfer it to a separate hosting package easily.
